Back on the track!

Today my fellow follower, our subject will be about something really INTERRESTING and EXCITING that we tend to firmly LOVE in this blog :

HISTORY

More precisly MUSIC HISTORY !!

with a certain song that every one know (surely) about an event no one know (in my opinion) I'm talking about...
wait
Tomo, introduce today's subject !!

heh!! o-okay..! we'll be talking about a song... called..Sunday Bloody Sunday by irish rock band U2

told u he'd be weird

a rlly rlly popular song eveyone knows, even me, the most popular song of the group with multiple covers from other popular artists like Jay-Z,
U2 has been playing their song more that 600 times!! faithfully performing it each year since its release in 1983 as the opening track of their third album War

It is a protest song the group written in a very perticular context : 1983. an intense and constant conflict is striking within the entrails of North Ireland, a sort of politicaly and religious motivated civil-war that already last since 20 years, and will continue for 20 others : The Troubles

To better understand how that period emerged, we have to go back to the cutting of the ancient colony of Ireland by the british in 1920, giving birth to 2 countries : Southern Ireland who was given its independency; and still attached to the UK.

While Northern Ireland was mostly protestant with a nationalist spirit, it was a small portion of englishes, mostly catholics now fully established but still very attached to the royalty that ruled the country, leading to a 'long-term' segregation between the 2 ethnicities.

there were even walls to separate cities.. most of the violences were perpetuated by (radical) protestants or local governements, while in the other hand, the british army was often responsible for unlawful brutalities against citizen soo...the situation was already no good...

The situation reached its peak level in the late 60's to finally calm down in the 2000's, even through some incidents are still registered to this day

like said earlier, this war was mostly marked by terrorist attacks or police brutality like the eponymous event of the song, surely (and sadly) the most known today : the BLOODY SUNDAY

Bloody Sunday or The Bogside Massacre, took place in the 30rd of January 1972 where 26 unarmed civilians were targeted by the british army during a march to protest against multiple operations of mass internement by the british police.

14 people in the big big majority young men were killed and 15 other were jnjured in this mass shooting. "Justice" was 'given' 50 years later, while the police version claiming that the protesters were armed had been retained.

To my opinion, i think that Sunday Bloody Sunday is a pretty objective respond to the event.

The artists define it as a 'non-rebel song' (very important), like a tribute to the many lives claimed during the Troubles and not the conflict itself (or one of the camps), a way to show a collective sorrow … Even if there’s some parts that could spark questionnement

Broken bottles under children's feet
Bodies strewn across the dead-end street
But I won't heed the battle call

like this part that could be seen as exaggeration.. but people ignored it despite the band's worries regarding their objectiveness..

proof that the song was too gud

The real battle just begun (Sunday, Bloody Sunday)
To claim the victory Jesus won (Sunday, Bloody Sunday)

Und that part at the end too where some could take it as a call to keep rebellion and battle

but i have no idea and we're not in a music study blog so we'll just set that apart :)

Being part of the the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time by the Rolling Stones, Sunday Bloody Sunday take now a major role in the acknowledgement of the Troubles outside Northern Ireland like we saw it with U2 performing it each year around the world.

but

what?

even if it is clearly considered as a political protest song, i personnaly think that it at the same time to 'de-dramatize' the period of the Troubles

what ???

let me explain.. see how this song is now hyper popular worldwide?? i think that it has loosen little by little its political content, and all the bad things with(cuzweallknowthatpoliticisanintrumentfromhellonlyforthedumbestofmorons).. Sunday Bloody Sunday is now a tribute to all the victims of the Troubles, only filled with sentiments..a non-violent or controversial way to remember the past and incite towards (world) piece

u..uunderstand??

yea.. i think

I'm not dumb, you know? I mostly understood that you decided to steal my place and do the conclusion in my stead

w-what?? that wasn't my intent-

nah nah, don't worry it's not that of a big deal

you'll just have to check in ur sleep if you dont miss a couple ribs..

But BREF

That marks the end of today article. Go do something else interresting and leave my page now.
